History made SAA 747 landing...

This mightly bird made its final landing on some flying club's runway in S Africa!, go the bottom of the page and click links related to 747 landing...

She landed right on the center line of the runway!!!, runway is just enough wide to accomodate all 747's gear bogies...Check it out...

Cool!! Looks like a seriously skilled pilot at the controls for sure!! He used the WHOLE runway for sure!

The link worked for me, you have to scan down to nearly the bottom of the page, there are only pictures.

the link works but you got to scroll way down to find the story about the 747.

well the runway was just wide enough... but it would also have to hold the weight of the 747 too....

which it did as we can see...

Thast is a really interesting story. It made the rounds about a year ago, but it is always a great read. The pilots wrote a fascinating account of the preparations for that last trip...things like the engines were going to be stripped off and reused, so they did not use reverse thrust on landing to avoid sucking debris into them......

The sooner you fall behind, the more time you will have to catch up.
