BYRON and tricks

I just recently acquired a new in box Byron Originals AT-6 Kit. Just wondering if anyone out there has built one of these and if there is any tips or tricks one can suggest. Plan to power it with either a G62 or ZDZ60, not sure yet.

It's a long time since I built mine, but the bad memories linger on. I found that getting the center section framed up for the wing joiners was a bear. My kit had very poor sizing of mating components. Also the F/G stub wing inners that are attached to the fuse had almost 2 degrees diff in incidence left/right, so I had to cobble the mating surfaces to make it look half decent.

Landings can be a bit of a pain unless you really pin it on the mains. Even then it had a tendency to bounce into a nose up situation. I corrected this after a few repairs by moving the wheels back a good inch or more by shimming and shaving the gear mounts. It made the plane much more enjoyable. Three pointers could be safe IF you get the tailwheel on first. A nose high mains only touchdown invites a kangaroo arrival.

The third owner of my plane is in the process of putting a whole new wing join process into the model. IMHO, the Byron system stinks.

This plane flew with awsome presence and authority on a Q-52S. Tex
