"Before I build a kit I make some templates/patternss of the different ribs for the wing and any parts that aren't drawn on the plans."

are there usually alot of things not drawn on plans? that would make it a little difficult for a newbie that had no clubs nearby... ( or didn't know about everyone on this site)

The plans provided with kits are sufficient to build the plane.

The number of part outlines not drawn on the plans depends on the individual kit you buy.

The idea of copying the items not on the plans such as wing ribs is to make it easier to repair the plane if you crash or have a bad landing, which will happen sooner or later.

Most plans for kits are pretty good and only a few part outlines might not be on the plans.

Whether you copy them or not won't make any difference when you build the plane. It only makes it easier to repair.

I've never made templates, and I've built (and crashed and repaired) about 6 or 7 planes. I think it would have been easier to make the templates if I ever had a major rebuild, but I've yet to do that. And my trainer was repaired about 100 times. At least, if not more. Seriously.

I disposed of it finally after I realised the tail surfaces were about 10 degrees from square. But I flew it right before I turfed it!
