transporting planes in a truck

I'm looking for some sort of carrier I can built that will hold differnt size planes for the back of me truck.

There was a gentleman who had come to our field this year and demonstrated his jet ( I believe it was called a reaction ) but I don't remember his name. He had some sort of transport in the back of his truck.

I like to here what people are using. I'll make it my winter project.
Its great when your 3 year old knows the names of all your planes lol

I built a platform in the back of my van.

Just 1/2 inch plywood 2 feet above the floor.

I put some rubber baked high pile carpet floor mats on it to help stop things from moving around.

I plan to make foam blocks to fit the wheels into and also use upright foam covered plywood to put the wings into.

I have been changing the design as i go along.

The next thing I want to try is using seat belt material to make slings for my fuselages. These will be mounted on scissor type frames that I can secure to the plywood.

No photos yet os it is an ongoing project. I will be working on it today.

I'm sure there is a better way that will get posted on this thread.

A guy at our club has a Panel Van with a rack on one side made from copper pipe covered with pipe wrap and he can transport five or so places at one time. He has aslo eqiped the van with a solar panel charging system which stores in a deep cycle 12 volt battery fro charging electrics,
Its amazing and I don't think he ever takes the planes out of the van as he parks in a secure building in front of a security camera.

If ya deadstick three times just stomp on it...It's an easier death!

Truck bed

I don't have a truck, however, I used to work for a company that always was transporting equipment. The best "flexible" solution I saw was the use of something similar to a pegboard with broomstick handles.

The truck/van had a 3/4 inch plywood cut to fit the floor bed. Every 6 inches a hole was drilled to accept the broom handles which were cut to different lengths (we were always collecting old broom handles - but large dowels would do). The cut broom handles were put into the plywood holes where needed to block equipment movement. The dowels fit fairly snug.

The same concept could be used to block the movement of field boxes, equipment etc. and a couple of broom handles could even be used together, with a board across the top and straps, to make a padded "V" plane rest.

I hope this gets your creative thoughts going and I have helped in some way.
