I've been flying for about 5 years now and it is really quite amazing how many of the guys will put everything down, grab their tools and flight box and come to the aid of someone they've only just met. Granted, there are always a couple of... idiots... in every crowd, but most of the people I've met in this hobby are good people.

In 2000 the Nats were held a few km from from my home... I saw the ads in the local community paper and dragged my kids (complete with bottles and diaper bag) out for a look. While there, I entered a draw for a trainer, radio and engine. I didn't win, but as I handed in my ticket the guy behind the table looked at my address and said, "Hey, you live just around the corner from me. If you win it, call me and I'll help teach you to fly it." I left with his number. Six months later I bought my first trainer and called him.... his daughter now babysits for us once in a while... he's still teaching me things... I'm going over to his place tomorrow to help recover a wing... I expect I'll be "holding the flashlight" more than anything...

It's just not here either... a month ago I was in France. I had made contact with an RC club near where we were staying. The gentleman I had emailed gave me his address and telephone number and told me to call him when I got to France. After a quick phone call, we met at the local tourist info centre and he led me out to "his" field. I met several very nice gentlemen and spent a pleasent afternoon with them. Again, a nice bunch of people.

Sorta makes you all warm and fuzzy doesn't it?!?
