Need help selecting a proper tailwheel assembly for SPAD3Dt

hi guys

I've built a SPAD3DT (plans at http://spad.org -> "3D and Novelty" -> SPAD3DT)
I've had problems with the tailwheel. I'm currently using coat hanger wire which is similar to the specifications provided on the site.
However it seems to bend very easily, in fact, while i start the engine, the wire bends. I am looking for a proper setup which will last long and aint too expensive. I've tried looking on greathobbies, but dont know which one is right for my use.

I will be adding skis on the plane, so i need some kinda setup (home made/from greathobbies) that will take skis.

thanks for your time

I just use a skid on all my spads. I use the coat hanger wire method only I bend the skid portion into a "J" shape.

SPADs need landing gear?

I haven't seen landing gear on any WWII SPAD combat planes.

I dont have any pics...But try this. Bend a piece of coat hanger wire into an L shape. Bend the L shape just so the short part can go through 3-4 flutes.

Poke a hole in your elevator directly below the rudder hinge. Slip the wire throught the hole and then poke the short part of your L into the rudder. Now, we should have a straight piece of wire going straight down from the tail of your plane. Take some pliers and bend the wire backwards into a J. Its simple, neat and doesnt require a wheel.

I just checked the site. It calls for 3/32 music wire.

There is BIG difference between music wire and a piece of coat hanger wire.

Use the music wire as recommended and you shouldn't have a problem.

Cheers
