Aircraft spruce is the only reliable source. look them up on the net, I have been dealling with them for years and they are the best bar none. The lengths you are looking at will qulify for cut-offs and thus be cheaper. You can use douglas fir or regular spruce if it is "quarter sawn" whis is how aircraft grade sitka is cut. It used to be available years ago from all the local lumber yards, at a time when people made there own ladders, ( same cut).

I've picked up 4-5 foot pieces of sitka at Windsor Plywood before. This was in a tiny town as well, so I imagine it should be available in a major center. I have a box full of almost square spar material (it's tough to cut into perfect 1/4" sticks)

thanks men found some 2x6x5ft at winsor plywood in winnipeg
it wasnt cheap cost me $19.99 afoot
