KW Flying Dutchmen Outing

Today, Feb.26,2006, the KW Flying Dutchmen set up a tour of The Tigerboys Aircraft Works & Museum at the Guelph airport. The tour guide was Steve Gray of the Flite Craft Hobby shop in Kitchener, and he is a volunteer there.
We were shown many aircraft in different stages of restoration, and many parts for future builds. One was a Tiger Moth from the movie "The Great Waldo Pepper", to identify it in the movie, it is the plane that crashed into the lake - it should be flying again this spring. We were shown other planes that were in different movies as well.
The manager, Tom Dietrich, was very knowledgable, and was a founding member of the KW Flying Dutchmen Model Club - in fact he showed us one of our original jackets and crest! He has a wealth of knowledge regarding aircraft in this area, from models to full scale.
Hanging from the ceiling were many scale models, static, control line and radio control, including an 8 engine, 50 pound Spruce Goose built by Steve Gray and flown off the water at Laurel Creek. Steering was accomplished by engine differential, since there was no water rudder.
If you ever get a chance, you should visit this very unique place. They are also always looking for volunteers to help in the build process if you are interested.
They have a "fly in" of old aircraft the weekend after the KW scale rally and offer rides in the antique aircraft, you may want to try and take it in this year.
The web site is: www.tigerboys.com
Just thought I'd pass it along, perhaps other model clubs may want to set up a tour as well.
