No, he is talking about an isolator, more often refered to as an opto isolator or opto coupler. A tiny led (often in the IR range) and a photo receptor (photocell) all encapsulated in a single package. Allows coupling a signal unidirectionally, while isolating the input circuit from the output electrically/electronically. Noise and such cannot be coupled back as the photo receptor (photocell) cannot pass anything to the photo transmitter (led).

Sorry, I must have been asleep. I didn't think there was a short form. I only use optoisolators for high voltage applications. Our printheads run at about 3kV, 5Mhz.

I would have thought the first component in a servo would be a capacitor or a pi filter.
