Just heard from one of my cyber-buddies that Phil Kraft passed away on the 9th of April, after a long battle with Altzeimermer's (deleted the message so I'm working from memory.)
I could have also posted this in Patch's renovation rant as the cyber-buddy has a wife with a blown spinal disk so he's doing lots of items around the house. Fortunately...
1) he's in California (no rain and not really cold)
2) home-club is Miramar and it's a half-mile from home....

Phil contributed as much as anyone has to our hobby. After a few false starts my first success came with his single channel Rx from ACE R/C. I went on from that to a 10 channel reed outfit, later upgraded at the factory to 12.
Most of us flew his Kwik Fli or Ugly Stick or (in my case) his Bar Fli - built three of those and I gather one of them is still going strong in the Maritimes. I went to a PCS and later Kraft digital proportionals. I'm still flying Kraft KP-7Cs, although I have Airtronics and JR sets, the Kraft is the one that 'feels right'. Yes, they have been updated to current specs by Peter Waters. But the original Kraft set stills feel great. I never owned a Signature series, but the ability to switch between 27, 35 and 72 MHZ bands came in handy when I was posted to Europe.
Yes, I have a lot for which to thank Phil Kraft.

Yes Phil is definitely another one of those modelling ICONS who will be truely missed.
I believe he was heavily involved with the AMA in their and his early days.

He was also very active - and successful - in FreeFlight before he got into R/C; some very good power designs published and now being flown in Nostalgia Gas.
