Gee Bee SPAD profile

About a year ago, I built my 1st SPAD. (Simple Plastic Airplane Design). It looked so ugly that instead of flying it, I hid it in my workshop. Since I am now short of flyable planes I got it out & flew it today.
What a treat. It really is an excellent model & literally flew perfectly on its 1st flight.
This thing could become my favorite model.

Lots of free plans are available at the SPAD website.

Look in the 3D plans section.

Mine is the corplast Gee Bee. It is overpowered with a .46 engine but makes quick takeoffs & vertical climbout. Most flying is done at to 2/3 throttle. The correct engine is a .28 glow engine. Wingspan is 36, weight 4 Lb, wing area 704 sq. inches. It will do most aerobatic & 3D maneuvers except spinning, but I am still working on that.

Thanks to:
Sylvia - used plastic election sign fuselage & wing.
Gord munply plywood - motor mount.
CTC for stocking aluminum U channel for the fuselage. $6.00 per piece.

The rest of it was made from bits, pieces, scraps, in my workshop. I call it my 6-dollar airplane. Takes about 3 evenings to build. It will never win a beauty contest but sure is a beauty to fly. Everybody should have one of these in their hangar.

I don't have the facilities to post a pic. but it looks just like the one on the 'spad to the bone' web site. I biult it pretty much to the plan.

I had it out again today & it still flies fine. I really does not need the .46 engine that is in it. Most flying is done at 2/3 throttle.

I used 1/4 ply for the motor mount. On a very bad landing today, I broke the mount so tonight I cut out a new one. This time I used thicker ply. (5/16).

Back to the field again tomorrow. This thing is too much.
