So he ventures to the golf club and finds out how much it costs to chase a white ball and hopes that he never hits anyone
The following years he becomes involved with MAAC and starts educating!

It's certainly not just about the insurance
It's certainly not a rediculous cost for what we get and will get!

Thanks MAAC and the positive contributors!

...there's an easier solution - just don't fly into someone or their property!

I'm inclined to agree with you Hughes500E, - certainly not excessive if you can afford it, considering what it allows us to do... - ... and I regret that my comments appeared negative... I hoped to convey a point of view which might make it easier to understand and forgive those who may see it as being an excessive cost. That's all.

... The line "Get Lost. Find another hobby/activity, and stop bugging us." seemed to me to be rather harsh and unfriendly.

Harsh? Probably, however...

... since I joined MAAC (40 years ago?) I have heard all this stuff before, again and again. At some point, you have to ask yourself: how do you convince the blowhards and snivellers that the ONLY reason we have a hobby at all, and haven't been banned across the country, and have frequencies reserved for just us, and an insurance plan for just us, and all the other stuff that would be unavailable to just us, were it not for MAAC?

Maybe I'm just getting old and crotchety, but my experiences over the years shows me that MAAC is a VERY necessary part of the modelling scene in Canada, and having someone with more ego than intelligence tell me that seventy-five bucks is "too much" as he climbs into his $40,000 SUV really lights my fuse (wow, that was a long sentence!). Non-thinking critics do not deserve our time. Sure, we should educate them, but if they think it is all wrong, then my original statement is still my opinion.

I have volunteered for MAAC, and I have volunteered for this hobby for more than 40 years as an instructor. I don't ask my students if they are MAAC members until I see that they are really interested, and give no hints to those who think they know more than I do about either the hobby or MAAC. Usually, when they screw up, I ask them why, but again usually, their attitudes don't change, then they go golfing. G'bye already.

I, too, applaud the wonderful, dedicated volunteers who make MAAC a success. They are more dedicated than I, and I always feel badly when I cannot pursue my efforts for MAAC. I put in a lot of time, but nothing like the Executive and the Committee members, and I thank them.

So should every model builder/flyer in this country.
