Span is 42". The resin I am going to use is Minwax polycrylic as I have heard of lots of people using it with great results (plus its cheap )

I got the cores cut for the elevator halves today. They are really nice cores! I have to do a little touching up on the leading edge of one of them though, but its not too bad overall.

Now its on to the rudder.

I should be getting my fiberglass this evening. I wont be able to do any of it before I leave though

Just like everyone stated using "covering" to make the tail stronger is not a good idea. The strength bias of you fiberglass or cf or kevlar is running the wrong way. The fg,cf, kevlar will be strong only from the leading edge to the trailing edge. In order to increase strength top to bottom you will need to make the material very thick. Very thick is not good because you are requiring multiple layers and alot of resin. You would be better to laminate cf to the spars to increase strength. The covering will do nothing to help carry flight loads nor should it.

There is not anything capable of flight that uses its covering to carry loads.

On the same note, if you believe this aircraft is not structualy sound you should not fly it till it is. I understanding wanting to fly it at your event but you must consider the safety of others!
