Battery Care

Hello all, It was just recently my birthday and I got a bit of money from the family in order to feed my plane addiction. I am fairly new to the hobby, and need to know what equipment to buy to take proper care of my batteries.

I have a futaba skysport 4 Tx and the receiver that came with it??? Not sure right now. I do know that the batteries are Ni Cd. I need something that can cycle both the receivers battery and the transmitter. The transmitter battery will come out, but it looks like you must open the entire case to free up the wires, so something that might plug into the charging port on the side of the radio would be great. I also need to know what would be a good voltmeter to buy? I saw one guy at the field who had a combo tachometer/volt meter, but I don't remember the make of it. Anyways if anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Battery Care

Hi ,Welcome to this crazy and wonderful hobby.I believe the battery checker and tachometer you mentioned is the Hanger 9 worth around sixty bucks and a great investment. It is very good practise to check your batteries between flights. It just takes a minute and could save an airplane. The Hobbico Accu-Cycly Elite is a very good Charger -Cycler.I just bought one myself.I think I paid $175.00 from Hobby Wholesale in Alberta. You are very definately starting out on the right foot by looking after your batteries. They are probably the weakest link in your radio system along with the switch .Good luck

Battery Care

For a charger I would use the Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite it can charge discharge and cycle all you battery packs and you can charge 2 batteries at a time.

I use a Hanger 9 Digital Voltmeter with a Tachometer and it's great. And here is the link for the Charger
