I want to start smoking... Is that wrong?

Ok. My DA-50 has about 1 gallon through it now and is already starting to knock my socks off. The sound is great and the mid-range gurgle is all but completely gone.

I held off on the smoke system because I'm new to gas and I didn't want a dozen new things on the radio on my first go. I'm considering putting smoke in my Christen Eagle in the coming month, but I need to be sold a bit on the idea.

1. Where are all the used smoke pumps??? I can buy toast with the Virgin Mary's image on it, but Ebay does not have a single used smoke pump! Hard to believe. RCCanada and RCUniverse are same story (minus Mary of course). I don't mind buying new, but I can't believe that there is no market for used smoke equipment. Am I just looking in the wrong place? Am I spelling smoak wrong?

2. Is smoke just a novelty that ends up being another pound of unused, dead weight in my fuselage? Are there folks out there that have tried it and love it and use it every time they fly? I fly at fields with very few members so the prospect of drawing spectators with smoke is great. But, I don't want to get into a gimmick that collects dust after the first week.

Thanks for your thoughts!

If you're not part of the solution... you may be insoluble!

Hi Jon,

My experiance with smoke is that it is really cool, it does draw alot of attention at an event but, it adds alot of weight to a 50cc plane, and it defeats two of the main reasons for going to gas 1. cost of fuel; u'll easily blow through 24oz of smoke fuel a flight at $20/gal. 2. it slimes up your plane like glow fuel.

So for every day flying it's not that practical but, for a show it's great.

Yes, flying with a smoke system can attract attention.

Some times, a little too much attention.
