Hey guys. I went and saw the new movie last night. The computer generated images were very good and the full scale replicas were Ok.... The Nieuport 17's were very good except the rotary engines were obviuosly fake............that's Ok since I can't see anybody building a replica and then using an original rotary........ The SE5a was depicted as being at the front too early, it was supposed to be 1916 at the start of the movie and I don't think the SE5a showed up until much later in the war. The story will certainly not be winning any oscars for screenplay writing. Typical tragedy about the loss of pals to the war and the hero's attempt at true love. All in all if I could do it over I would wait for the DVD and watch it at home. I got there early to get a good seat and sat through 25 minutes of noisy commercials and public service announcements and at $ 10.95 each for admission it was annoying. Anyways, a good flick for those of us who are airplane nuts, but, certainly not in the same class as Private Ryan or the Band of Brothers series in terms of war dramas...........

Thanks for the review. I guess I will wait until it comes out in VHS or DVD.

Two of us, both flyers saw it Friday night. I give it 7 3/4 to 8 (out of 10).
My buddy gives it 8 1/4 to 8 1/2

I'll buy it too when it comes out in dvd, but it deserves the big screen a theatre has and the mega watts of sound found there too.

If you want historically accurate films find some moldy old scratchy, fuzzy film from 1914-1918. Hollywood films are enjoyable, and so what if the SE5 came in later than 1916.

I'll wait till it shows up in the Wal-Mart discount bin. (Need all the cash I can get for planes.)

Like Bob, I don't care to spend good money just to be assaulted for nearly half an hour with commercials.

I sort of have to agree Billo, the big screen is worth it. I didn't mean to sound quite so negative. It is a good flick, glad you enjoyed it.
