Airfoilz - Edge540 Build

I received my Edge 540 from airfoilz the other day and thought I would post the build as I go some hints and tips for others interested in these great models.

Kit came packaged well with no shipping damage at all. Upon opening up the individually packaged foam peices I noticed there was no imperfections in the foam and the built up fuse was very solid. All the hardware was of good quality and this is a foamy.

Instruction manual is easy to read and there are some really helpful pictures if you get stuck. There are some interesting parts of the build that are detailed in the manual such and the way the wing is built.

I got started on the fuselage first as the instructions suggest. I noticed that the outer skin on the foam was loose on the front so I glued it down when I epoxied the ply doublers on the fuse. The motor mount and landing gear insert needed very minor trimming for a perfect fit. This is an easy model to build and I am impressed with the quality of the parts. The motor mount is very solid. I would suggest that you drill out the pilot holes for the motor mount before gluing in the firewall to the fuse. I am using the Hacker A20-22L so mounting was easy with the supplied mount from hacker and Airfoilz. I suggest to drill a small hole in the fuse behind the firwall to allow for the hacker shaft to pass clean into the fuse (hacker is reverse mounted with the shaft out the back).

The horizontal tail was an easy build using the supplied CF to score the gluing surface and recess the rod into the leading edge of the elevator. I recommend to glue the CF rod in before cutting the center out, this will guarantee that you have a nice straight and level elevator. Be carefull not to glue the center peice to make cutting easier.

That is all the progress I have made on the model so far but I will try and post some pictures of the build as I progress.

GREAT MODEL I cant wait ti get it done and in the air.
