Any pointers on how to get the local gym or armoury?

You should check with your local school board to see if gym time can become available. One of our members is a teacher and we found out that our school board is mandated to supply rooms and gyms to interested groups free of charge if they are available. For the most part we manage to get a least one gym fairly easily while the principles at some schools seem to be a bit hesitant about us flying in theirs. Our members just started indoor flying last year and we had a blast just getting used to the space limitations. Keep trying and I hope you find a place to fly.

Once you have a school, you need to call maac and have them list the school on the insurance. If you use the school during hours that a custodian is there, then there is no cost. You just have to have proof off insurance. We were able to get a high school gym from 9-11 pm in the evenings after sports groups were done. If you pay for the custodian you can also get it on the weekend. It helps if you have a member affiliated with a school or a friendly principal. It is true, schools are required to make their facilities available to public groups.

Good luck and have fun.
