Clutch Bell

My Ergos clutch bells moves up and down a little when I wiggle them. I had the one way bearing block out of them booth this morning and put them back together. I noticed my raptors clutch bell doesn't move at all. So I am wondering if this is nothing to worry about or are my helis going to explode when I start them? Thanks Dan

Maybe give Gary a call at Great Hobbies, he flew an Ergo for years. I can't remember if the clutch on the one I had moved up and down or not, I don't think it did, but I can't be sure.

Hi Norm. I own an Ergo 30 and a 50. They both have a little bit of up/down play and I have never had a problem with either of them. I had heard that there should be no play in the assembly, but after many hours trying to remove the play I decided to run them as is. Hope this helps.

P.S Hey Norm is the weather where you are actually good enough to allow a guy a little time on the sticks? I wish!

You want to be careful with slop and play. Ergos are notorious for chewing pinions. The bearing chatters on the pinion shaft until slop develops. The shaft gets smaller where the bearing seats. Best to bond the bearing to the pinion from get-go. Use 620 sleeve retainer by permatex.

Hi Norm,

Did you Loctite the pinion into it's bearing? I just checked the manual and they recommend a thin coat of red loctite. It's pretty permanent, but it beats having the pinion and bearing killing one another in flight. Make sure it's all nice and clean (degreased) before doing the deed.
