Richard is going to get grief from some parties.

However, as a proud son of a Canadian Combat Veteran, I have to agree.

Canadians tend to be so self-effacing that we can't believe the level of contributions to world peace that we've made over the last century.

We are now down to less than a handful of WW1 veterans (3 by the last count that I'd heard). WW2 veterans are similarly decreasing (age of the youngest veteran is pushing 60 if not more).

We probably can't add this to the rules, but I'm suggesting a 10% bonus for scale competition for doing a Canadian combat model.

That is, if you're doing a warbird, there is a definite incentive for doing a Canadian model (flown by a Canadian)

I don't think that Richard will hear a word of grief on that post - it may have nothing to do with model airplanes but it has everything to do with being proud to be Canadian.

I just find it amazing that it was a British columnist that was able to put our "National Identity" into words so nicely. Perhaps Pierre Burton should be sent a copy...

Kudos, Richard, for sharing that. I had not read it before, and am pleased to have done so now.

Who can slag Richard for sharing that??

It's based on fact, history, and it is a copy of a news article.

He received it, it obviously meant alot to him, and he wanted to share it with the MAAC community. I see no harm in it. I think alot of the MAAC members, or at least their parents witnessed, to some degree the effects of the Canadian presence during the World Wars. Myself, I'm not personally affected by the wars of today, and my only exposure is through the media. "War" to me is something that I only hear about. I can not feel it's effects. It is only through articles such as Richard posted on the MAAC site, that I can understand the scope of our sacrifices through the ages. It brings our commitments of today (right or wrong) into a different perspective.
