Trainer Cord Compatability

OK, it is time for me to finally thin out my radios. I have one radio that I use all the time, my Futaba 9C. My other radios are Hitec. I want reduce to only the 9C and one other radio to keep around for a buddy box. In addition i have two fellows I am teaching who use Hitec Tx.
My 9C is equipped with spectrum module. I want to use my 9C for everything, including the training. Meaning my intent is to just program the student's plane into my 9C and then they can use their own radio as the buddy box.
So, I need some help to confirm compatibility for the setup. I checked Futaba's site for same and this is what I found in their FAQ:
Can I use my Futaba transmitter and trainer cord with other brands of radios to instruct?
The Futaba trainer cord can be used with HiTec radios as the "student's" radio. If using HiTec radios as a "teacher" radio, use the HiTec cord. Other brands of radios are not supported or compatible with the Futaba trainer systems.
My interpretation of this is so long as I equip my 9C with a genuine Futaba trainer cord I can plug any Hitec Tx into it as a student box. Do you agree? Is this correct?
