Hi Phil

Neil Benjamin (the wings director) in the Whitby club is quite proficient in helis, not sure if he instructs them though, but you could inquire. The Toronto Heli club is the closest "heli" specialist club. I believe they are near the Markham fairgrounds. I do know that those guys are amazing in what they can make a heli do.

One of their members offers private heli flying lessons on a buddy box, using his heli. There is a charge for that but everything I've heard says that he is more than worth the cost.

The Seaton club also has some folks who fly helis quite well and the guys from Pinnacle hobby are members there.

Ajax allows helis but it's mostly beginners there.

I'm sure others will pipe in.

Hope this helps

Hi Phil;

In addition to what Bob had to say I'd also suggest you perhaps talk to Neil at the Whitby Club. Based on my observations this summer he is indeed the most active Heli guy there, and he knows his stuff.

Parker Leung also is into Heli and is also a WAM member.

Both Neil and Parker frequently come to the indoor flying in Bowmanville on the weekends - see the Whitby Aeromodellers website for times and location.

For local parts and expertise there are a few options - basic parts and some kits can be found at Discount hobbies in Oshawa. For serious kits, lots of parts, and great expertise, see Kelly Curl at his shop in Ajax - he deals primarilly with electrics, and specializes in Heli's - and he can setup a heli in his sleep.

I bought my Honeybee King there and Kelly has been great helping me get on my feet with setup, radio programming, etc.

After alot of fixed wing experience I too am just dipping my toes into Heli's now as well, so I'm in a similar boat (albeit perhaps a little further along) as yourself.

By no means am I of any use for instruction, but I'd be happy to share what I've learned (and it has been a surprising amount in a short period of time!) with you if you wanted to get together some day.

Are you a Whitby Aeromodellers member already by chance? Were you at the fun fly on new years day?

Heya Phil;

On another note, I'm in Courtice as well... PM me, perhaps we live only a few streets away from each other.

I was flying my King out front of my house yesterday evening when the wind was down. Whenever it's calm, I'm out there!
