I have a chance to buy a 1995 model 1001 xcell 60 gas 10 years old ,in good shape with lots of extra parts futaba 7ch fm only radio ,all servos, test stand and floats all alignment tools etc.Now the batteries of course will be shot but will everything else be ok.There are at least 3 sets of blades 2 tail rotors extra boom 2 engines a lot of parts ,heli is sitting on inflatable floats and the test stand is unique allows one to fly 7 foot radius and not get away $1000.00 canadian --is this a worth while purchase, the 10yrs on everyhting scares me a bit but everything is in good shape
Also for extra $500.00 3 built planes 3 kits 2 engines 1 radio all 10 yrs old

10 years old

You never mentioned if it is still operational or has been sitting for ten years so I will assume sitting.
Batteries are cheap to replace, at great hobbies about 70 dollars, check with your local hobby shop may be able to give you a good price and then your supporting your local store. Don't know what your experience you have but take someone from your club as a second opinion. Ten years on a motor may not be an issue, if it has been run hard and to lean definatley will be.
As for the planes track them down on the net if they are still around and that will give you a comparison. A little finger work may turn this into a good deal for you.
One other thing a ten year old plane may have some hanger rash. You may have to remove the covering to check them out before flying. Good luck and hope it is a good deal for you.

The worst day flying is better then the best day working!!

A lot has changed with Heli technology in the last 10 years....

Depending on what you're looking for, I think that $1000 would go a long way toward a new heli...

OTOH. a gas Xcell might make a nice scale or camera platform, provided you can be assured of getting parts....

Jim pretty much spelled it out.

Even if the helicopter is mechanically fine, theres always the issue of parts. Unless you've got a ready, reliable source for them, you might find your self with $1000 worth of stuff that you can't fly .

With $1000, you could get a decent nitro or smaller electric into the air that would probably fly circles around a 10 year old helicopter, even if it is an X-cell .
