I would be very tempted to try POR 15 on the aluminum.
Their little starter kit ($20) will cover 12 sq ft. I use it on steel all the time and swear by it. You have to use lots of muscle to scratch it off using the sharp corner of a screwdriver!
It also stays pliable. It does not stick to plastic like margerine containers. When I peel it out of the plastic margerine container, it feels like the covering on NiMH battery packs.
Their cataloque has a rant about a guy using it on helicopter skids, which I assume are aluminum.
The kit includes degreaser, some metal etch and the "paint" itself, along with little brushes. It comes in 5 or 6 colours, including clear!
