I have a Castle creations phoenix 25 ESC, EFlite park 480 motor, 1050 duralite 3s lipo, 11x7 apc e prop, at about half throttle the motor shuts down and the ESC flashes intermiitntly,
what have i got wrong???????
would seem that a software revision has cured the problem, I believe the cutoff voltage in the standard setup was too high now have it set to 4volts and it runs fine, now the question is:- is 4volts too low?

it sounds like you may be dropping into low voltage cut off. Try a smaller prop. Im not fimilier with the motor and prop combo. but the battery might be a little small for that combo. i think you may need a 2100mah to be able to run that prop.
What do you mean , I can land upside down

Hi there,

Your ESC is doing it's job...trying to save your battery!!

Absolutely, 4 V is too low, LVC (low voltage cutoff) on the ESC should be set at MINIMUM 3.0 V/Cell....or 9.0 volts in your case.

I think the root of the problem is that the prop and motor combo is too big for that battery. Even if it were a 20C battery, which I don't think it is, an 11x7 prop on the 480 would demand everything that pack could handle!! You've propped pretty aggressively in my opinion, especially if you are trying to run a 1050 mAh Lipo!!

I would guess you will need around 3 cell 2100 mAh Lipos or so, or any Lipo that could deliver 20 to 25 Amps continuous. Or esle you could drop down a few sizes in props, for example try a 9x6 or a 10.3,8 SF.

Point of note, this is all dependent on what type of flying you do and what type of plane you want to fly.

This is where the wattmeter pays off. Takes the guesswork out of it.
Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.

I am using an eFlite 480 (Kv 1020) in my Brio 10 and it pulls 26 amps on a APC 11 x 7 E prop. I am using a Hyperion 1800 (20C) 3s battery and get good performance. Your problem is the battery size. A 1050 size LiPo can't deliver the amps needed for your motor/battery combination. Do not lowere the LVC to 4 amps, you will destroy your battery.
