Fractional model airplane ownership?

Since I can buy a ready made high end aiplane that is almost all done how about we start some kind of an fractional ownership program.

Here is an example, Paul buys the f18, John provides the radio and servos, I provide the turbine.

What do you think? This way we can all play with more toys.

I think that you're asking for trouble.

So tell me, how upset will you be when your minor partner plants your $10K plane on take off?

Who stores the plane, repairs and transports it?? Lots of questions here.

Flying models is a high risk hobby (sort of), I'm willing to risk my money - but not yours.

Are you willing to risk YOUR MONEY on ME?? :

Hey, Great Idea! Maybe RC Bart or Nony will let me be a junior partner in one of their jet projects

Hey Dave.... I guess we can let you watch a couple of times....

This idea is not as crazy as it seems, Cuz Bart and I did it. Where neither of us had the necessary combination of time, money and talents to put a first jet into the air, by pooling our resources, we were able to build a jet, teach ourselves to fly it and campaign it for nearly 3 years. It got bent, bruised and finally broken, but I should have it fixed up and flying again this summer!
It takes a very strong friendship to ensure success in a program like this, though.....

Wayne you are correct on all accounts - - - - - - - Davie can watch!

Actually it worked out well , due to our limited 'common' area for building of only one day a week, it took a long time to finish but that is another thing.

It will rise from the 'ashes'.

How about a club building a plane to be auctioned, raffelled or door prized at a contest or fun fly.
Some could do the wings others fuse or final assembly? It would bring club members together instead of bickering.
What do you guys think?

I think this kind of a setup would be a real deal for the guy purchasing the radio system. Eg. $400. to $750. as opposed the the guy buying the turbine: Eg $3000 to $5000.00. Even the jet airframe itself is a pretty cheep investment compared to the cost of the engine!

Perhaps the only way to even consider this kind of a deal would be for each partner contributing equil amounts of $$ AND time. I would also hope that each of you are very very good friends to start with especially if there is going to be 3 or 4 or more people involved, because this arrangement could really test your relationships, as has been mentioned! Eg: If one of you were to turn the completed RTF project into an instant kit!

This kind of an arrangement has worked out very well for the purchase, upkeep and time sharing of a full sized aircraft... but a model aircraft? That would be whole different animal to tame! There would be a lot of arrangements to work out, such as has also been mentioned previously, and as I said, this could very well work out to be a real serious test of your friendships. Consider this very carefully before you start!

JMHO only and hopefully some food for careful thought!
