Help with choosing club

Remove this ad - become a site supporter!
Hi, I am new to this great hobby and need some help. I live in the K-W, Cambridge area and looking for a club to join. My question is wich club has the best instructors and what times do they teach? I do have my MAAC membership. I know I have a couple of choices but would like to know from other nebies what they think.
Thanks, Bretzi

The KW flying dutchmen, near St Jacobs
Hespeler model aviators, hwy 24 near kosuth road.
Guelph Gremlins, probably to far
There are some more clubs in cambridge i think.

It might be a good idea to visit them first and you can see the field and meet some of the people before buying a membership. I doubt you will find many people out right now because of winter weather.

Any club will be happy to help you out and they all have good instructors, welcome to the hobby.

KW Dutchmen

Hi Bretzi,

The KW Flying Dutchmen have their general meeting the first Tuesday (Feb. 6) of the month and you are welcome to attend if you wish. By doing so, you can then get an introduction to the club and see if you like it or not.

The meeting starts informally at 7pm for those who would like to socialize, and talk modelling, the formal meeting starts at 8pm. The speaker this month will be "Soldering Techniques" and next month it will be "Indoor Flying and the Equipment". The meetings are postponed over the summer months.

The meetings are held at the Waterloo Rod and Gun Club, the same place where our flying field is, and it is fairly close to the Waterloo Market. You may want to look over the field, and club house over before making any decisions. If you need driving instructions, please let me know and I'll post a map for you.

Thursday evenings are reserved for our training night, that is, weather permitting. I think all clubs in the area have good training programs and you will be in good hands no matter which club you join.

You can check out our web site ( ) and the newsletter there will list our contact information if you would like to call and talk to someone.

If you need any further information please let me know. All the clubs listed in the previous posts are good and have excellent training programs. No matter which club you chose, you have picked a great hobby, and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

If you come to the meeting, please introduce yourself.

One sure way to find out the temperment of the club is to attend some meetings over the winter. The guys that attend these meetings are the majority you will always find out at the field. Some of these clubs may have indoor you can check out. Ask a ton of questions. Visit a few and pick the one that you like best. Any of the clubs in the area would be good choices.
