For those unfamiliar with the precision aerobatics scene in Canada, there is a core group of enthusiast that competes across our huge country. Within most all provinces at an RC field near you, you will find flyers practicing to some degree, the basics of aerobatics. Wether it’s a simple loop, horizontal roll or other such maneuver, the end goal for most is to do it perfectly or at least try too.

Over the years this part of the RC hobby has changed considerably from high speed, high noise “center” elements to encompass both turn around end maneuvers, size limitations and more “neighbor friendly” noise restrictions.

The models capable of these maneuvers have also changed and encompassed technological advances that far exceed what the original builders ever thought possible. Hi performance two and four stroke motors have now been joined by electric setups in a major way as battery technology has allowed incredible power sources from ever shrinking batteries. This has spawned a whole new generation of models from ultra light foam type airframes to high end composite structures.

Through the MAAC Precision Aerobatics Committee we have constructed a building block approach to allow a novice flyer to expand and build their skill level on up to the highest level if they choose. The challenge is within each individual flyer as to how far he or she wants to go.

To help get our part of the hobby “out there”, there have been lots of publications over the years but with the fruition on the internet there are multiple sources of information available with the click of a mouse. Websites now link most RC clubs and everyone pretty much has an e-mail address somewhere so our world has “shrunk” considerable over the past years.

For Precision Aerobatics in Canada, information is readily available through the MAAC site at as well as relevant Canadian content through the American Modeling Association’s S.I.G., the National Society of Radio Controlled Aerobatics based in the US. Through the NSRCA’s K-Factor publication, event details, pertinent news, building ideas and reports just to name a few are published monthly in an effort to keep everyone informed. In addition each “District” of the NSRCA has both novice (like me!) and professional webmaster busy churning out sites that keep everyone with computer access up to date.

Up until recently Canada had two contributing members for the K-Factor. Our Eastern District was reported by Xavier Mouraux and the West by me with both of us using our own personal websites to further augment the information chain.

Recently Xavier has announced his departure from this position and we have not had anyone as yet, step forward and fill his shoes. In an effort to continue reporting on Precision Aerobatics for Canada and as an interim remedy, I have taken on the job myself until such time as someone express’s an interest. I feel it’s important to continue to showcase our Canadian content in this way.

I will be relying on fellow enthusiast to keep me up to date so I can convey the details to those interested. This year in particular will be very busy and I greatly appreciate any and all help going forward.
