Keep in mind that full scale radios are of a higher watt output.
Simply can't compare them to the r/c ones that our government allows us to have.

a whip antenna inside the frame of a rc chopper works fine why not hanging out the tail of an aluminum airplane

Did not say it would not work I just mentioned the problems that you can have. With full scale you are above the junk(ground) and most aircraft use an antenna like a small loaded whip which could be used on this aircraft. Our problem comes in where large aircraft are using mainly voice and ours use a chain of data. Get a break in the chain and we have problems like a glitch.

Hey guys, there are lots of aluminum clad models out there, lots of jets, most with the RC antenna internal. They seem to work ok!!

Regarding antenna placement, some full size larger planes have 2 antennas, one on the fuse top and another on the belly. This to eliminate the fuse shadowing the signal.
Can I retire now?
