A buddy of mine decided to snap a few pics of my Aeroworks 50cc Yak this weekend. I'm starting to really love this plane more with every gallon I burn.

Hey there! Beauty of a Yak...

Do you mind posting the details of your setup? I've been drooling over these for months now, and am about to pull the trigger and load up the line of credit

I'm putting together the list of stuff I'll need. I plan on DA-50 for power.

Thanks,
Tom

Good choice for power! I also have a DA-50 on my yak swinging a 22x8 Mejzlik prop which gives this plane impressive vertical performance. For radio gear I have a JR 7202 and Hitech 5985 servos on all surfaces.

When they say that this plane assembles in 8-10 hours they are't kidding. Like all the later production runs, mine came with all the necessary hardware upgrades and 2 precut landing gear hardwood reinforcements ready to epoxy in place in minutes. I've flown my yak off our bumpy runway, and off an icy and snow covered runway with no problems with my landing gear like the earlier models.

For servos, if you are gonna go with Hitec, then I would recommend spending the extra $15/servo or so more and get the 5955's for everything rather than the 5985's. Everything else is up to you, wheather you go with Lithiums, NiMh, redundant or non redundant packs, your choice of Rx etc....

5955 seems to be what alot of people are using. Might be a little overkill on this size model, but since I don't have any 5985 or similar servos handy I'll probably go that route.

Thanks for the info Zippy! I'm jealous of your dry flying field. We've got 15cm of snow forcasted here in Ottawa over the next couple of days.

I was gonna use a 5955 on the rudder but they were out of stock at the time. After flying the plane more than 50 flights, I've found that 180 oz is more than enough. Even though 5955's are nice, they aren't necessary.

BTW we checked the current draw of this setup and it was over 3 amps with the servos moving all surfaces at once with no wind load. No wonder my 2700 mAh nimh pack is only good for 3 flights before recharging

The 5985 is more than addiquate in terms of Torque values, however; where the 5955 really shines is in its gears. My 5945's (since replaced with the 5985's) have alot more slop than my 5955's. The titanium gear train in 55's are really awesome, they stay very tight after many flights.

Sorry for wandering off topic, back to those kick a$$ picks, and nice flying!!! Oh and yes i'm very jealous because I look outside and see piles and piles of snow, lol.

hmm interesting take on the 5955's. I'm sure I will be adding a few to my servo collection soon too.

Down in the valley here we generally only get snow for a few weeks of the year, the rest of the winter is mostly cloudy and wet.

I dove in and ordered one of theses this morning. Went through Great Hobbies.

Where did you order yours? If it was GreatHobbies, how long did the shipping take?
