FMS - New flyer, what should I be practicing?

As the topic says: what should I be practicing in FMS. I am flying a trainer (Gptrh) which seemed like the right model to start with (I downloaded this model). I have extensive experince in MS Flight Simulator, and what I like about that program (most recently version 2004) was that there were flight lessons offered.

Now for FMS, I'd like to see if there is a lesson faq anywhere or perhaps develop a list things to practice in this thread. For example; first work on takeoffs, straight and level flight, flying a cicuit, landing etc...

Thanks in advance,

Are you using a transmitter as a controller? If not, my advice would be to get one. Without using a proper controller FMS is just another videogame.

I would practice taking off, and trying to make controlled, straight passes along the runway. This is hard in FMS because you can't see much on the screen at any given time (ie. you can't look down). Along with the straight passes, practice landing on the runway. Its easy just to land wherever, but force yourself to use the runway and you'll see that landing isn't the hard part, its lining up the landing.

Use whatever plane you like, a trainer is good, but you won't be losing anything by trying out the other models. I suggest using the 2.0 Alpha 8.5 version of FMS, even though the "recommended" version on the FMS website is the 7.x version.

Have fun with it, and it'll be a great tool for you.
