Great Hobbies 2007 Heli School
Hi Guys,
Our annual heli school will be held later in the season this year. We have set dates for the first weekend of August (3rd, 4th & 5th). The school will be setup much like it was in the past – Saturday morning will be an in-class session, which will cover the basics of setup and tuning of your helicopter. We will make sure everyone leaves the class with a better understanding of the mechanical side of our helicopters. We will also ensure that everyone gets their model properly setup. Saturday afternoon will include free flying at the training site. Instructors will be available to help make changes and perfect everyone’s helicopter setup. Sunday will involve buddy-box sessions all day. Everyone will have the chance to spend some time learning new maneuvers on a supplied helicopter. We will be using a pair of 9C radios and Raptor 50s for the buddy-box portion of the school. Everything is supplied, and no one will be held responsible for crashes or mishaps of the school helicopters. Below is the cost involved when registering for the school. The part number required to book a spot at the school is GHPHFS. The school has previously been a lot of fun and hope to see some new faces this year! Colin Course Date: 3rd, 4th and 5th August, 2007 Location: Stratford, Prince Edward Island Pre-Registration Cost: $25 (paid before July 15th, 2007) Registration Cost: $35 (after July 15th 1, 2007) Maximum Students: 20 Students Max (up to 10 advanced/intermediate)

Please count me in Colin!
I can also assist on Saturday with the setup portion for any of the beginners. I know I'm not a "new face", but we have several budding pilots in the area and I'll see what I can do about encouraging them to attend. What's going on on Friday, August 3rd? Flying and getting acquainted in the afternoon/evening as in the past? |

Re: Great Hobbies 2007 Heli School
Hello there,
I am very interested because I dan't have much help around here. What I know I learned from forums like this one. But I'd like to know more about the content of the course because I would not want to be the one that's keeping the others from progressing, you know? I have a Blade CP Pro that I can dismantle and rebuild and fine tune very well if I say so myself, and it is upgraded to brushless with twin tail motors, and I also replaced the transmitter with a Futaba 9C. I can hover in all directions, do forward flight with ease, and I am getting better everyday. Or could be, if only the wind eased up a bit. But no figures, nothing remotely close to 3D. I now have 90 heli flights in my log book. My next buy will be the T-Rex 450SE sometime later this year. And I have been wanting to visit PEI for a long time, so this could be the occasion I was waiting for. So what is the level of proficiency required to get into that course? Regards George |

Calvin, thanks for the help offer! We can always use a hand. Friday will be similar to what it was last year. Kind of a free for all, however we will be there to answer any and all questions as well as provide any hands on help.
George, you would not be holding the class back one bit! We try to have 10 beginners and 10 intermediate pilots attend. We cater to both groups. I think you’d enjoy the trip to the Island, especially if you’re planning some tourism. We would be glad to have you attend. Cheers, Colin

Hello,
I am in New Brunswick and I am just getting into the heli hobby. I have a venture 30cp that I am getting help with the setup from another venture flyer. I probably will still be hovering by the time the school comes, maybe forward flight. This sounds like a good oppritunity to come and learn from the pros. would I still be able to come even though the heli is pretty much set up already. Thanks |

Everyone with a heli that has basic hovering skills are welcome! It is extremely hard to teach someone how to hover via buddy-box, which is why I prefer the person to already have that basics of hovering down.
March, I would really like to do a school in toronto, however the costs per person would be much higher than $25, due to travel costs. If there is enough interest in a specific area then it could be possible. Cheers, Colin

Hi Mat,
The price would be roughly $100 per person, and the class could range from 15-20 people. Because the hobby is much larger in Toronto than it is here, I would prefer to keep the school Aerobatic oriented. I would like to have everyone at least up to the basic aerobatic stages (loops and rolls). Thanks for expressing your interest! Colin
