Designed my own P38, 80" span two .46's with spring air retracts, call it "mostly scale," and I was also fearful of the "spin of death" single engine performance. on about the 3rd flight lost fire in one engine and shut the other off right away and dead sticked it in with no problem.
After a few more flights I was getting more comfortable with the flight qualities I lost an engine at altitude and chose to keep the other running.
after adding a little rudder trim, and remembering not to "turn into the dead engine" found the lightning to perform quite well on a single engine, even climbing (sluggishly) with one engine.
Now this was not a true scale P38 but the engines are very far apart.
One thing I did to help the single engine flight was to put a couple degrees of out thrust in the engines.
