Thats a great story! Hard to imagine 10,000 being built and only a handful still in existance. I would love to see Warplane Heritage aquire one of these beauties!

Thanks for sharing this story with us Bbbair!

Glacier Girl

We saw the Glacier Girl at Reno this September. You would never know she was left in ice all that time. There can't be too many left to recover around the world.
What goes up.

Very interesting story indeed.Finding this particular P-38 on a beach was a piece of cake compared to what it took to find and recover Glacier Girl.I've read the book on Glacier Girl and what it took to recover her.One hell of an interesting read indeed. They found out that funny things happen to aluminum airplanes when they're locked under and inside of tons of moving ice.Definitely wasn't the find they were hoping for for the mega bucks and megatime(years) they dedicated to this project. One man lost his life and lots of investors lost their shirts over this one.I can't help but recall the sacrifices that were made to bring Glacier Girl to life every time I see a picture of her.Talk about dedication. Here is part of the story but there is so much more to it than this......and the saga continues:
