Kingston Radio Control Modellers
Annual Auction Night 2008
6:30 pm, Feb.18 <--- NOTE - Early Opening!!!
RCAFA Club (the building where the Harvard is
mounted on a pylon) at Kingston Airport

All are welcome. Bring stuff and/or bring cash, and prepare to have a fun-filled evening. This is a great opportunity for new flyers to pick up needed items at low prices, and for others to pass along those old "dust-catchers" and "hangar queens" which you are not really going to use or fly in the future.

Special consideration is given to out-of-towners so that they can get back home earlier. You can settle your account and leave at any time.

We welcome all kinds of items: kits, engines, partially-completed or complete aircraft, radio systems, flight boxes, charging systems, shop tools, ... you name it. Typically, we auction about $2000 total during the evening, so it is a pretty big event!

If you have a Reserve Bid, put it on a tag or sticker on your item. As well, our Auctioneer will decide upon the appropriate minimum bid increment for each item. (Having 50 cent bids on a $200 item just wastes everyone's time!).

Those who have attended the KRCM Annual Auction, as well as those who attended the inaugural Ottawa Valley Zone Auction and Swap Meet, have some familiarity with the way in which we manage an auction. We have a spreadsheet-based system, developed by yours truly, and refined over many years.

Amongst the features and advantages which this provides is that everything is handled in real-time; therefore, we can settle up with an individual at any time during the event. This is a real benefit to those who travel significant distances or have some other time consideration.

This system was recently enhanced to accomodate the Zone Auction, whereby the Zone gets a percentage of each transaction, as well as the Seller's Club. These are variables - we set them to 2% and 8%, respectively, for the 2007 Auction. For KRCM use, we use 10% for the Club, that is all.

The package can handle a straightforward Swap Meet, either by itself of in combination with an Auction, apportioning the appropriate Commission(s) to the Club (and Zone, if desired).

The package, along with provided documentation , is very simple to use. It is generic, it has nothing that is RC-specific.

I offer this package to any other MAAC Club or Member to consider using. (Post a request in here).

The only conditions for use are:

1. This is NOT a commercial offering. There is no warrantee or guarantee of any sort, either stated or implied from the author. (In fact, it has over 5 years of background, over $10,000 in transactions covering many hundreds of Items, without problems, in its evolving versions, so this is not something to be concerned about provided one follows the documentation and practices using it.)

2. This package is NOT to be used by, or on behalf of, any commercial enterprise. It was developed and freely offered to be used by the KRCM Club, any other MAAC organization who wishes to use it. The author does not object to its use within other non-profit or charitable organizations.

3. The package is always subject to change, based upon experience in use or ideas to improve functionality. When altered, the author (me) flags the revision date so that anyone requesting a copy will know that they have received the latest, proven offering.

4. If used, the author requests that he be notified afterward, along with any suggestions for improvement and possible distribution of any future updates.

Early Opening for the Auction!

The bartender (yes, there is one of those at the RCAFA Club!) was asked if we could get the place opened 1/2 hour earlier than normal for the February Auction. He most graciously agreed!

This will allow folks a bit more time to set up and browse.

The 2008 Executive has already decided that the normal Business Meeting will be curtailed to the barest essentials (reading of the Treasurer's and Secretary's Report) so that the actual Auction can get underway promptly. (This will mean some extra scrambling for the folks who run the event, but that's why they get paid the big bucks, eh?).
