I got a bunch of 12 volt gel cell batteries. They all show good voltage but some do not work with my starter. Is there anyway of reconditioning these batteries.

from what I've (now) read because of your question, not easily (ie homemade unit) or cheaply (store bought).

Google for "desulfator" and you'll see what I mean.

I have personally found that even the best sealed lead acid batteries (gell cell) only have a life span of about 2 to 3 years. Most of the problems related to this type of battery is allowing it to become too discharged and leaving it in that condition for any length of time. They never seem to regain their origional strength when recharged. As far as I know, there is no real way to refresh them.

The best deals on gell cell batteries is at places like Princess Auto where they can be had for much less than you'd pay at your LHS. Sorry, but thats what I have found.

For a good discussion on gell cells and all other types of batteries used by RC Airplane enthusiasts go to RC Battery clinic:

Look at the left side list of headings and click on: "Lead Acid batteries - Care and Feeding?" for a discussion on care of Gell Cells.

Hope this info is of help!
