The centennial of flight is coming up in 2009. That makes 100 yrs since the flight of the Silver Dart from the ice of Baddeck Bay.
The Cape Breton RC Modellers have been approached about hosting a fly in along the lines of GAFF. We are thinking about it.
We are only a small club and would need lots of help. We certainly can't finance anything that big nor run it on our own.
I have been checking out a few things and discussing the possibility with local flyers.
Here's what I know or at least hope could take place:
The full scale Silver Dart is being built in Ontario and is to be shipped here for a flight from the ice in Feb/09 if possible. Ice conditions for the past number of years have not been reliable though. This could mean putting it off until later or trying to fly it at a regular airport in the winter.
OR POSSIBLY doing it in the summer.
This could mean that a possibility exists that it might be able to get them to fly it in conjuction with a GAFF type fly in.
Our Margaree site would be great but might not be able to support large numbers without some major work. Also, all the cabins in the area are usually booked solid from the 1st July on.
Anyone reading my other post on GAFF please note: Our Margaree fly-in
is the last week of "off season" rates and three-four people can stay a full weekend in a housekeeping cabin for about 200.00 for the weekend. Not Bad!
I don't want to put everybody to sleep so::
For a Gaff type fly-in we can get the full scale Sydney airport for the
weekend in July or Aug 2009. Only a couple of flights in or out so not much of a bother.
What a place to show off your turbine aircraft!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How about thinking about this and post some replys as to who might REALLY be interested in attending. We can't even consided something like this with out at least 100 or more committed attendees.
