Other than the decals etc. that usually come with aircraft kits , i'm frustrated that i cannot find a retailer that sells a large assortment of decals / lettering / numbers etc. for aircraft applications.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here. thx.

Hi ; You could try looking in your local art supply / drafting store.

They usually have basic lettering and graphics as well as stencils.

Letra-set is one brand of peel and rub on type lettering.

Check out PROMARK "world's best model graphics" at

There is also a company that sells a decal/graphics printer/cutter for modelling. I can't remember off hand what their name is but they are usually at the Toledo show.

I hope this helps you out some.

Print off some neat designs you find on the internet, trace them onto some scrap sign vinyl (you can get this from sign shops), cut them out, and you're good to go!

Hope this helps.

or, you can try making them yourself, by designing and printing them on your computer/printer.

u can also trace whatever design u want to onto ultracote(coverite - monocote) and cut it out and it will last aslong as the actual plane covering.

The absolute easiest way to make your own decsls is by going to and ordering water slide paper order the paper made for laser printer format. Make the decal on your computer or find a picutre of what you want made into a decal. Take it and your decal paper to Staples and have them print it for you. they will often do it whilre you wait anf the cost is .25 cents apoy. By the time you get home it has all set. Cut around the decal as close as possilble and slide it into warm water for about a minute. Slide it onto your work surface and sliode it into position. pa it dry and seal it down the next day with alittle clear spray. The attached pic took me longer to go to Staples and back than it took me to set up and apply these decals.
It truly is as easy as this.

I found this in the construction hints tread, it looks like a great way to make designs, and should work fine for lettering also.
