I reuse my sandblasting sand and always have a ton of it laying around.
I tried socks but the sand gets through. Now I pack sand into various size Ziplocs and they make great formable weights without the cost of lead shot.
Care must be exercised around sharp spots, otherwise a mess ensues (but is vacuumable)! I guess they could be protected with cloth.
I've used my old magazines as well, but find they slide around a lot.
I love how our hobby uses so many common around-the-house things to accomplish fantastic tasks.
