I have made a few head buttons and also repaired a few for myself and a couple others. I use a 1/8" brass plug with the pipe tap thread. I drill and thread the head from the inside and tighten it in. I also stake it then machine the outside and inside. Then I drill and tap for 1/4 32 and clean up. When finished it looks like some of the older motors that where built that way. Cost is minimal and if a friend has a lathe even better.
