Hi guys, So before I make another mistake and get a bad engine I have to deal with tell me your honest opinions on your engine of choice for a Krill 33% Katana S and why you choose the engine you recommend.

Thanks Ed.

Engine

After looking back at the testing you and Trev did I see why the DA is an excellent choice. I checked other sites on the Krill and most guys are using the DA 100.

Congrats Ed on the purchase, i'm jealous

The advertised finished weight is around 28 lbs.

My first choice would be the BME 115...Very light and compact and likely the strongest engine currently available at this time...Keith Baker has been bought out by a couple other gents and i think you'll find their service as good as the rest of em'

Second it would be a toss-up between the ""new DA 100"" ( it's reported to be 6 oz. lighter and 150 rpm stronger than their first version) and the 85...Although the 85 is lighter it would stick out the bottom of the cowl and it's also a bit a of a to mount, whereas the twins on canisters would be completely enclosed.

There's also 3W-106, an excellent choice if you don't mind tuning a little..The ZDZ Super 80 is almost as strong as the DA 85...There's a new MVVS 80 which promises to be very strong.

Any of the current motors are fantastic Ed...If you're concerned about service you should lean towards DA..

For me it would be a toss-up between the BME 115 or the new DA 100

Let us know what you spend your bucks on

Engine

Hi Jack, Thanks, I was talking to one of the new owners at BME his name is Andy Snow and he even pilot's 747's for a living, what a lucky guy anyways your right the new BME Extreme 115 is quite the engine and I do like the idea of not cutting a hole in the cowl to put a single in. Andy says the engine is going to be around $1300.00 bucks. The new MVVS 80 does look promising too at 10 HP open header. Thanks for the info.

If there's a disadvantage to the 115 or 100 it would be the cost of a complete setup and possibly a little bit of a weight penalty.

As you know the 85 with can can likely be had for $1100 or so..Of course the twins will be at least $500 more. That'd buy half your electronics.

For me i still like the twins better

If BME is out of the doghouse them BME 115 because they are powerful and LIGHT!!!!!!!!. It will work in the next 35%. Why buy an engine that will not work in the next size up. If you decided to move to 35% you would have to buy another engine on top of the 80-85cc you bought for the 33%. BME 115 may cost a tad more upfront but could save a ton latter down the road. Of course if you jump to 40% then all bets are off and an 80 ish would be better.
PS If you do not otherwise know, once the 33% is in your blood your brain will start to scream for a 35% or larger

Check out the used engines forum. Sprice 50 is selling a BME 110. I have flown a 33% H9 31 with it and it kicked a$$.

Well I guess it's going to be a DA 100 from Luigi at Fedon Aircraft to replace the Mintor 110 that I sent back. I hope it shows up with everything that's supposed to come with it.
