Wink Re: Home made smoke fluides

I have heard that brake fluid mix with a little
kerosene does work great. However have never
tried it. But the source is reliable enough. For
colouring, mix in some RIT dye (you know the
dye use for changing colours on clothing) The
way to really have it work is to preheat the fluid.
If you have a gasoline engine its perfect. Have
a copper coil inside the muffler for the preheat and
an old carb for needle valve adjustment to mist
in the vapour back into the muffler. With the RIT
dye you could have tanks of different colours
for various patterns. Brake fluid and power steering
fluid mix with diesel are all good smokers that I have
Hope it helps.....have a ball experimenting on your
engine test stand.

I'd be skeptical about using brake fluid in the mix. I don't mean this as a mean comment or belittling anothers idea but, brake fluid will make a mess of painted surfaces and I bet it'll damage coverings too. I've personally never mixed my own, not yet.

Re: Home made smoke fluides

Go to the gas station and get a jug of diesel fuel. That is what the Snowbirds use.....

I'd be careful about brake fluid or transmission fluid, when you consider that people (most likely you!) will be breathing in the fumes.

Here is pic of diesel smoke...

Re: Home made smoke fluides

I've used 50% diesel & 50% kerosene and think its as good as any store bought, however it does have/leave a diesel smell on things. Have used this successfully in glow engines by adding 10 - 15% white gas to it. This cause glow is cooler running.
