I have to mount my saito 100 inverted in the plane I am building, will I have any problems with it?

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

Saito has an excellent reputation and it should work well inverted.

That having been said - Inverted engines can be a real pain.

Tuning must be done properly - too rich and the fuel pools in the head and drowns the Glow plug. A good ignitor is a must and depending on the model, a remote glow connetor is a good idea (reaching under some models to attach and retreive a glow ignitor is a pain).

Other things to watch include - remembering to put the throttle linkage and the switches on the other side of the plane - simple stuff until you have to take it apart and do it again.
- make sure that you have a glow plug with an 'Idle Bar' (it keeps the raw fuel off of the Glow Plug element.

When all is said and done - lots of engines work very well inverted - you just have to learn "HOW" to set them up.

Happy Landings

No problems.

search for inverted and saito. Here's one https://www.rccanada.ca/rccforum/show...inverted+saito of a bunch.

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

I run a Saito 125 inverted in a GP RV4 and the only thing I have found is make sure your glow ignitor is fully charged to start it. The remote glow starter location is a must. I would like to try an onboard glow driver in this plane, but the set up I have currently seems to work fine.

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

Just be very careful when starting with an electric starter. Inverted can lead easily to flooded cylinder and banging it over TDC can bent or break valve stems, cranks, etc.
: I find it best not to prime as you would an upright or side mount if you are using an electric starter. Use the starter to help suck up the fuel, rather than hand pumping the fuel into the engine prior to turning over.
: BTW- my .100 Saito loves 13x10's, 14x10's and 15x8's. They all pulls an 8 1/2 pound Tiger .60 almost unlimited vertical with all props, running so rich it looks like I have a smoke system. I'm using 30% Heli fuel with 23% Mineral oil.

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

I have more than 100 flights on my inverted Saito 100. I never have had a problem with it. I always use an electric starter for the first run of the day as its usually a little cold. Of course I give it a few turns first. A 12x6 three blade is on the front of it. Its in a H9 P-40. Awesome combo. I agree that you need to take the time to tune the engine properly and don't fly it until its right. However, I would say the same for any engine in any position. Take your time, to tune and you'll fly no problem.

Have fun with it.

Cool Re: saito 100 Inverted?

Hello

I have a saito 100 thats inverted and I am having trouble with fuel gravity feeding to the carb. The tank is mounted at CG to get the plane to balance. with it being low wing I can't get the tank any lower than it already is. Is there any suggestions out there on getting it so that it won't over fuel itself? When I get it to run it runs fantastic but the low end is a little burbley with it getting so much fuel. This is a Czech made 3d plane( similar to a UCD) at 6.5lbs all up with fuel its a vertical monster but I am afraid to fly it too much until I get the fuel issue figured out. thanks

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

Why do people say that fuel will collect in the combustion chamber of an inverted four stroke. As the engine is turned over the exhaust valve opens and the fuel runs out does it not?

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

Flyguy. Try a perry pump or a fuel header tank.

Re: saito 100 Inverted?

I have mine inverted in the Hangar9 Spitfire and fuel does run out the exhaust a bit as Ed said. As it is new, I am running it rich til it is broke in...but the only problem I have is that it has a dendency to spin off the prop a lot inverted with the starter. I do not ever prime it...or the prop spins off every time from a backfire, which hardly ever occurs on my right side up .91 Saito
