Help - Charging Losi LiPolys

I recently got a Losi Mini-T.

I bought a battery and charger and I charged my battery for about an hour and it puffed up.
It was pretty well low powered when I started charging it. (no racing power... only walking pace)

# LOSB1207
1000mAh 2cell

# LOSB1208

1. Will the puffing go down, or should I leave it in a metal box in the garage?

2. Can I still use it? Because I've yet to... this is probly gonna end up being a waste of money for me. Buy a LiPo and have it damaged before use!! GREAT!

3. How long should I usually charge it using the same specs as added above?
(If I was to get a new battery)

The battery is cold now and the hardness is gone, but it's still like a puffed up, chemical filled pillow.

I'm new to the whole LiPo thing, and to be honest, until I get used to it, I'm a bit scared. lol

Thanks for your input.

Re: Help - Charging Losi LiPolys

If it puffed, it's dead. It was overcharged, and lipo's will not tolerate overcharging (or overdischarging.)

That charger looks like an accident waiting to happen. I've never seen a wall wart charger for a lipo. What do the instructions say on how to charge your lipo with that charger?

All the lipo chargers I have seen are microprocessor controlled so that they can determine how much the lipo has been charged and will not overcharge them.

It's unfortunate that your first experience with lip's has turned out this way. But don't get discouraged. Lipo's are a great battery technology, but they do require some knowledge (just as nicd's and nmhd's do.)

Re: Help - Charging Losi LiPolys

I agree....that charger is far from the best. however, if you look at the lipo, it has some sort of balance circuit built into the pack and may require that charger. the pack circuit should have cut off the charge current.

from his comment "only walking pace" I'm leaning towards over discharge in the pack.

driftmaster, further to my earlier comment on your double post, you don't need to have a losi brand battery to run your losi car. any 2 cell 1000 mah lipo that will fit will be fine. most packs do not have an internal balance circuit and depend on the charger to balance and charge.
