Guess what diesel fuel smells like?

Diesel fuel.

Get it on anything, and it'll smell just like that - diesel fuel. Guess how I know.

Oh, and burned diesel fuel smells just like that - diesel exhaust.

You might be able to mask it a bit by putting some nice fragrance into your smoke oil mixture.

As an aside, when I was young and experimenting, back on the farm, I tried running a glow engine on diesel fuel. Relying somehwat on compression ignition, glow engines are, after all, diesels, right? Talk about screwed up thinking. It kept running up to about a 50/50 mix of glow and diesel. It ran very poorly and sure stank.

If you want cheap but maybe not quite as good as the megabux hobby shop smoke you can get Esso transformer oil in five gallon pails. I've used lots of it. Others have used form release oil, used in concrete construction. Tex.
