Re: Flying time at your field

Regardless of the gas prices, I try to get to the field about twice a week. More, if I could!

For me, flying takes my mind off of things and, more importantly, rejuvenates me.

Re: Flying time at your field

What keeps me from the field is a wife, two kids and a busy work schedule. The cost of fuel driving to and from the flying field is not an issue. My main runway is only a 5 minute drive. If I want to fly then I have to drive, regardless of fuel costs. Flying is still far cheaper than some of my other hobbies.

For me the chance to get out with friends, have a relaxing fly, see some others fly there builds, and just to relax at the field out weighs the cost of getting there. It's just one great hobby with a great bunch of people.

it's true, it's true

Nope, I still fly glow Won't be long and gas will be as much as glow. As far as getting to the field, you can't put a price on sanity (or is it the insanity)

You can fly Hitec or use the other "low tech" stuff!!

Re: Flying time at your field

Its about a 25 minute drive to my flying field and as with everything else it does require some gasoline to get there.

Its a hobby, which means its money spent on leasure time and like any other hobby, its money that is not totally necessary in the larger scheme of things but again, is necessary to get the needed break and relaxation from the every day mill, with its constant pressures and stresses. Whats the old saying???...."All work and no play, makes John a dull boy!"

I do not nor never will resent any money spent on fuel to do the one thing that I enjoy most as far as hobbies go, and thats getting out to the club at least once a week and flying my plane(s) and being with friends. AS I have explained in the past, its more than a relaxation time for me personally, its an important form of rehabilitation and therapy. With my personal disability, there are so many things I can no longer do or take part in. Building, fixing and flying my planes and helping others along the way, is NOT one of them and I will continue for as long as I am physically able.

Re: Flying time at your field

The price of gas is not holding me back. Heh.

It's a 35-40 minute drive to the field. But that is nothing compared to what I have planned for this summer. Ten trips to out of town events. Shortest drive is about 400km. Longest is 1300km. Figure an average of 1000km. That's 10,000km just to fly jets. Oh yeah, and I'll be towing a travel trailer too. I get about 15l/100km when towing. So that will be 1,500 litres of gas. At todays price of $1.20, that should cost about $1,800 just for gas. But man, is it worth it!
