Unhappy ZDZ 80 flex header to canister failed!

During the maiden of my AW Extra 260 today, 5 minutes in the flex header blew out. My engine is mounted inverted. The exhaust mounting flange welds up to 2 90's to come behind the cylinder, then the straight flex coupling, then another 90 to exits into the KS 89 can (I know I know, slightly undersized for the engine). I'm out of flex and out of straight tubing. Any suggestions/offers?!?!?

Hi Peter. A little late but. When I worked on snow machines the flex pipe wouldn't last either. Vibration was the killer. That's where they went to the ball socket joint but they don't make them small enough for models. Could you mount the muffler with brackets, solid to the motor? That way you could use solid pipe between the two. Or, If you can find a close fitting pipe to go over or inside of a pipe, you can slit one pipe with a hacksaw into the end and put a screw clamp to tighten it. If it does move with vibration, run a ground wire from the motor to the muffler so you don't get RF interference. Don't know if you've gone to 2.4 yet but it's not so prone to interference. Sorry I'm late as you've probably got the problem solved by now. At least some food for thought.

Tried for my kamikazi pilots licence. Flunked the test.
