Chatham Scale Airshow 2008

Went to the Chatham Scale Airshow today, and it certainly was worth the drive!
Prior to leaving, I checked the Doppler and saw some pretty nasty thunder clouds about 2 hours to the west of us. But frequently these systems get diverted to the north of us towards Detroit/Windsor, away from the south shore communities. I figured there was a 50-50 chance of rain in Chatham so we decided to go.
When we got there the weather looked iffy as rain clouds loomed close by. Fortunately the weather cooperated and the rain started falling only after the official part of show ended.
Check out this giant of a plane with the 17 foot wingspan.
The nose wheel of the giant transport would not come down so the pilot had to do a nose landing on the grass with seemingly no damage.
But not before this close call
The OPP clocked this SU-27 Flanker doing 160mph or 264km an hour!
The airshow featured planes in historical order, beginning with WWI era to present. Bi-planes, warbirds, jets, helicopters and more.
The show ended with an acrobatic duo who performed what I can only describe as magic. Somehow they were able to seemingly levitate their planes almost stationary in the air as if hanging by invisible line, inverted and almost horizontal I tried filming it with my camera but the video did not turn out, so as a result, I also missed the opportunity to take still shoots of this really amazing feat. You will just have to go and see it for yourself.
The airshow was amazing.
