Blade CP Pro rescue project...........

Hi all. My intention is to use this post as a sort of log for my "new" cp pro salvage. I think it'll be a nice addition to the "fleet".
So, on to the meat, I just picked up a...........ahhh........... "neglected"........ cp pro on ebay for a larf (ie cheap).
I was looking for something I could fly in the back yard in between flying my raptor 30 at the feild and something to work on a bit. This little chopper was available at a good price.
It's all pretty much there. No real damage. CF main blades, direct drive tailrotor, copter x brushless and 30a esc. Extra main frame, stock blades, tail motor and a bell long ranger body came with it. 2 800 ma Lipo batteries also included. Gucci little CF tail strike/fin.
I believe this is the esc and Motor: http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_...oducts_id=5603 , CopterX (CX200-10-00) 200L Brushless Motor (2800KV) & 30A Brushless ESC with BEC
Blade tips have been damaged, the tail motor mount and boom spin freely in the frame (ie:really loose!), all the servos, wires, etc were disconnected. The copter x motor is meshing wayyyyy to tightly with the main gear (it actually ratchets when turned by hand!), esc needs to be wired in. Also, no idea if it works at all..............
Here's a quick pic of how she showed up at my door step:
Yuck.............Maybe it wasn't such a good price............what have I gotten into? Did I waste my money? Has the wife seen the visa yet?
Well, lets do a little work on it before we start to panic........
And now, a pic of how she looks after an hour or so of plinking around:
As you can see, I've installed some super skids. I know people complain about the weight, but I'm willing to accept the slight reduction in flight time for the extra protection and the tail support, hopefully the brushless motor and lipo's will make up for it. The balance is pretty much dead neutral with a maybe a little forward bias when supported by the flybars. Perfect.
A quick ground test of the controls with her secured to the work bench shows everthing is working/moving as per spec. Just need to tune in the setup (time to get the pitch guage, swash leveler, etc, out)
I reworked the CF blades and resealed the tips. They had "scuffed" something and split open somewhere in the past. They also had some abrasion damage cordwise. The span of the blae was untouched. I work with CF at work, so no worries about unsafe blades now as they have been proper repaired. I'll have to rebalance and weight match them though...........easily done.
I'll pop on a set of plastic training blades I have before the first......ahem..........flight (probably crash).
I still have some wiring to sort out and the esc still has to be spliced into the harness. But I need to sort out the motor and main gear intermeshing issue first anyways. I'll be removing the zip ties on the wiring for wax string like I use when I wire real helo's. The ties were only meant to be temporary (for positioning) as they will cut into wiring insulation over time and vibration. The ties on the "3 in 1" will stay though.
The Blade was intended to be a fun little backyard flyer, cheap and quiet, something I can fly anytime and not bother the neighbors. They're a good acre away (I've got a 4 acre yard), but the Raptor can be kind of noisy on a Sunday morning. Not to mention the price and availability of nitro right now...
I'm looking to move into one of the new Ghz radio's as my Raptor is still fm and the blade is the stock set. It would be nice to have one radio for all my sets. Ah, but money (or lack there-of) says I have to wait............
I'll eventually be putting the Long Ranger body on it as I don't have any real interest in 3d flying (other than it looks cool and is fun to watch!) and the super skids will look good with that fuselage. If I ever do move to 3D flying (not near good enough yet), it'll be on the Raptor......but I'm planning a Bell 222 fuse for that one............
Maybe I need a fourth heli? Nah, wife'll kill me.............
I mean to keep the Blade inexpensive, but I find myself already looking at metal heads and swashplates. Also, I'm wondering what kind of nice aluminum mainframes I can make at work with the CNC machine. Maybe I'll spin out a a belt tail conversion............crap, it's already become additive! Just like my raptor...................
