Finishing Problem

I am working on a new A/C for my first gasser. The fuselage front top is planked with 3/8" wide planks. I have sanded it well but the groves between the planks still show. I could use dope and fabric but that is a lot more work than the iron on plastic. I would like to fill in this area to make it look smooth, but what to use. I contemplated using nitrate dope and baby powder (the old stand by) then painting over it with balsarite. I also was going to use polyfilla, painted over with balsarite. Does any one have an idea what this plastic covering will stick to?

Re: Finishing Problem

To fill the gaps use drywall compound. It sands just as easily as the balsa. If a hard filler is used the softer balsa will be sanded away either side of it resulting in miserable ridges.

Re: Finishing Problem

I use lightweight spackle from the hardware store. It's the container that feels empty when you pick it up.

I do have a question. Did you bevel the edges of you planks with a 45 degree edge when you stripped them out? This allows almost no gaps between planks.

If you want awesome, you have to scratch build it!
